Types of Color Coated Steel Coil
Different substrates can be used for color-coated steel. And
cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, and galvalume sheets are
commonly used.
1. Color Cold Rolled Steel Coil
The color-coated coil, with cold-rolled steel as its base metal,
has a smooth and attractive appearance. And it maintains the
processing performance of cold-rolled steel. However, cold-rolled
steel is prone to rusting when there are any minor scratches on the
surface. Hence, color cold-rolled steel products are only
recommended for indoor applications with low requirements.
2. Prepainted Galvanized Steel Coil (PPGI Coil)
The most popular type of color-coated steel uses galvanized steel
as its base metal, including both hot-dip galvanized sheets and
electro-galvanized sheets. Hot-dip galvanized steel is particularly
favored as a base material. These prepainted galvanized steel coils
are protected from rusting by a layer of zinc and organic coatings.
Hence, its service life is longer than that of the hot-dip
galvanized sheet. Despite this, due to their smooth surface and
attractive appearance, they are widely used for interior
decoration, steel furniture, home appliances, and other similar
applications. The zinc thickness of the hot-dip galvanized
substrate ranges from 30 g/㎡ (double-sided) to 275 g/㎡. You can
choose according to the use environments.
3. Electro-galvanized Color-coated Steel
Color coated steel is also made using electro-galvanized sheets as
the substrate. However, the zinc layer on the electro-galvanized
sheet is typically thin, with a range of 10-30 g/㎡, making it
unsuitable for use in exterior wall or roof panels. Despite this
limitation, electro-galvanized color coated steel is valued for its
attractive appearance and outstanding processing performance,
making it a popular choice for home appliances, steel furniture,
interior decoration, and other applications.
4. Colour Coated Galvalume Coil (PPGL Coil)
You can also find color coated steel coil with galvalume steel (55%
Al-Zn alloy coating) as
