Bright Polished Extra Hard Tempered overview
Type 409 Stainless Steel (UNS S40900) is a stabilized ferritic
stainless steel that provides improved oxidation and corrosion
resistance compared to carbon steel. Ease of fabrication combined
with its corrosion resistance and economy have significantly
broadened its utilization in automotive exhaust and other
non-automotive applications. ASTM A240 defines three (3) sub
categories of Type 409 stainless steel; UNS S40910, UNS S40920 and
UNS S40930. Each of these designations has a slightly different Ti
or Nb stabilization requirement. Each of these compositions can be
supplied as UNS S40900 unless the purchaser specifically identifies
a specific composition. It is produced with enhanced formability
characteristics known as “High Performance” or “Ultra Form” in the
industry.

Automotive exhaust systems applications such as manifolds exhaust
pipes, catalytic converters, mufflers, tail pipes and other
components. Non-automotive exhaust applications such as home
heating systems, automotive thermostats and fuel filters,
electrical transformer cases, caskets and heat exchanger tubing.

1) Monel 400
Monel is resistant to corrosion and acids, and some alloys can
withstand a fire in pure oxygen. It is commonly used in
applications with highly corrosive conditions. The good resistance
against corrosion by acids and oxygen makes monel a good material
for the chemical industry.

2) Monel K-500 /K500
Small additions of aluminium and titanium form an alloy (K-500)
with the same corrosion resistance but with much greater strength
due to gamma prime formation on aging.
Alloy L605 has excellent strength, good oxidation resistance, very
good sulfidation resistance, and relatively good resistance to wear
and galling. Used in gas turbine parts, bearings, and various
industrial applications.

Haynes 188 Alloy is a Cobalt-Nickel-Chromium-Tungsten Alloy that
combines excellent high temperature strength with very good
resistance to oxidizing environments.

6) Haynes 230
Haynes 230 has best balance of strength, thermal stability,
oxidation resistance, thermal cycling resistance and fabricability
of any major high-temperature alloy. Used in gas turbine combustors
and other key stationary components. Also used for heat treating
and industrial heating applications, and in the
chemical/petrochemical process industry and in fossil energy
plants.
Hastelloy is a superalloy known for its resistance to high
temperatures and stress in severely corrosive environments. Forged
primarily from nickel, some types of Hastelloy alloys are common in
nuclear reactors, chemical reactors and pipes & valves in
chemical installations. Hastelloy X is also used for components
such as combustion chambers, tail pipes in aircraft and land-based
gas turbine engines.
Nickel-based specialty metal Super Alloy Hastelloy X AMS 5536 is
the common Sheet and Plate specification.
* Nitronic 60, also considered a Super Alloy, is designed to be the
best non-galling stainless steel.
Beryllium Copper: ASTM B194, B196, B197, B534 Copper beryllium alloys are used for their high strength and good
electrical and thermal conductivities. There are two groups of
copper beryllium alloys, high strength alloys and high conductivity
alloys. Beryllium-copper alloys have desirable properties
facilitating their use in a variety of demanding applications. The
high-strength alloys (C17200 and C17000) are less dense (.298
lbs./cu. in.) than conventional specialty coppers. This often
results in a yield of up to 7 percent more feet per pound than
high-strength phosphor bronze. The high-conductivity
beryllium-copper alloys (C17500 C17510 and C17410) are ideally
suited to applications requiring high operating temperatures, or
high strength and conductivity.
C17200 Beryllium Copper: ASTM B196, AMS 4533 Most commonly utilized beryllium copper alloy and is notable for
exhibiting the highest strength and hardness compared to commercial
copper alloys. Its strength and hardness is similar to that of
steel. C17200 ultimate tensile and Rockwell hardness properties in
a peak aged condition are in the 200 ksi range and RC 45
respectively (electrical conductivity 22% IACS minimum).
C175 - C17500 Beryllium Copper: ASTM B441, ASTM B534 C17500/C17510 offer a combination of high electrical and thermal
conductivity with good strength compared to most copper based
alloys. C17500 alloy is the mirror image of alloy C17510 in terms
of its properties and characteristics. The alloys differ in that
C17500 specifies a cobalt alloying addition (2.40-2.70%) and alloy
17510 specifies a nickel alloying addition (1.40-2.20%), but their
performance are the same.
