General information
Flex Power DC/DC converters and DC/DC regulators aredesigned in accordance with the safety standards
IEC 62368-1, EN 62368-1 and UL 62368-1 Audio/video,information and communication technology
equipment -Part 1: Safety requirements
IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 contains requirements to prevent injuryor damage due to the following hazards:
• Electrical shock
• Electrically-caused fire
• Injury caused by hazardous substances
• Mechanically-caused injury
• Skin burn
• Radiation-caused injury
On-board DC/DC converters, Power interface modules andDC/DC regulators are defined as component
powersupplies. As components they cannot fully comply with theprovisions of any safety requirements
without “conditions ofacceptability”. Clearance between conductors and betweenconductive parts of the
component power supply andconductors on the board in the final product must meet theapplicable safety
requirements. Certain conditions ofacceptability apply for component power supplies withlimited stand-off
(see Mechanical Information for furtherinformation). It is the responsibility of the installer to ensurethat the
final product housing these components complieswith the requirements of all applicable safety standards
andregulations for the final product.
Component power supplies for general use shall complywith the requirements in IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
Productrelated standards, e.g. IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet,and ETS-300132-2 Power interface at
the input to telecomequipment, operated by direct current (dc) are based onIEC/EN/UL 60950-1 with r
egards to safety
Flex Power DC/DC converters, Power interface modulesand DC/DC regulators are UL 62368-1 recognized
andcertified in accordance with EN 62368-1. The flammabilityrating for all construction parts of the products
meetrequirements for V-0 class material according toIEC 60695-11-10, Fire hazard testing, test flames – 50
Whorizontal and vertical flame test methods.
TP1 = -30 to +95ºC, VI = 36 to 75 V, sense pins connected to output pins unless otherwise specified under
Conditions.Typical values given at: TP1 = +25°C, VI= 53 VI max IO, unless otherwise specified under
Conditions.Additional Cin = 220 µF, Cout = 100 µF. See Operating Information section for selection of
capacitor types.

Description
The NCP4200 is an integrated power control IC with an I2Cinterface. It combines a highly efficient, multi−phase,
synchronousbuck switching regulator controller with an I2C interface, whichenables digital programming of
key system parameters to optimizesystem performance and provide feedback to the system.
It uses an internal 8−bit DAC to read a Voltage Identification (VID)code directly from the processor, which is used to
set the outputvoltage between 0.375 V and 1.6 V.
This device uses a multi−mode PWM architecture to drive thelogic−level outputs at a programmable switching
frequency that canbe optimized for VR size and efficiency.
The NCP4200 can beprogrammed to provide 2−, 3−, or 4−phase operation, allowing for theconstruction of up
to four complementary buck−switching stages. TheNCP4200 supports PSI, which is a Power Save Mode.The
NCP4200 includes an I2C interface which can be used toprogram system set points such as voltage offset,
load−line and phasebalance and output voltage. Key system performance data, such asCPU current, CPU
voltage, and power and fault conditions can also beread back over the I2C from the NCP4200.
The NCP4200 operates over the industrial temperature range of−40°C to +125°C and is available in a 40
Lead QFN package.
