Breif introduction:

Coupler buffer system is one of the most important devices of the vehicle. Owe to the coupler buffer, the locomotive to vehicle or vehicle to vehicle could be hooked together and the traction force could be transmitted during running and the impact force could be mitigated during shunting or braking. The coupler buffer device is composed of coupler, buffer (draft gear), coupler yoke, coupler yoke pin, impact seat, slave plate and other parts. The front slave plate, buffer and rear slave plate are installed in the coupler yoke in turn. The coupler and coupler yoke are connected as a whole with the help of coupler yoke pin. In a word, the coupler buffer has three functions: coupling, traction and buffer.

 

In the coupler buffer device, the coupler is to realize the coupling between locomotive and vehicle or between vehicles and transfer traction and impact force, and to make vehicle to keep a certain distance between vehicles. Buffer (draft gear) is to mitigate the collision between vehicles during train operation and shunting operation, absorb the impact and reduce the kinetic energy generated when vehicles impact each other; The slave plate, coupler yoke pin and coupler yoke play the role of transmitting longitudinal force (traction force and impact force).

 

Draft Gear also called buffer is to reduce the impact force by compressing the elastic element, and absorb the impact energy by friction and damping during deformation of the elastic element. Draft Gear has the function of dissipating the impact and vibration between freight cars, so as to reduce the damage to the car body structure and load goods, and improve the stability of train operation.

 

ST draft gear has the characteristics of simple structure, light weight and low cost. It is a dry friction spring buffer, which is suitable for main general-purpose freight cars and freight locomotives with a total weight of 84t.

 

ST draft gear mainly consists of friction mechanism, main spring and box. Three friction wedges with the same structure form three friction mechanisms respectively with the thrust cone and the box; the thrust cone bears the impact force from the slave plate, and the friction wedge slides along the slope of the box and the limit washer. The main spring consists of an outer spring and an inner spring. The main spring has a large rigidity. In the process of impact, part of the work done by the impact force is transformed into the elastic potential energy of the main spring of the buffer, and the other part is transformed into the friction work of the friction mechanism. After the impact, part of the elastic potential energy of the main spring is consumed in the friction work produced in the process of friction mechanism recovery, and the rest of the energy is transmitted to the slave plate, so as to alleviate and absorb the longitudinal impact energy.
