In ASTM A240, type 316 and 316L is a chromium nickel austenitic steel, Element molybdenum addition can enhances corrosion resistance of stainless steel, which is the main factor that 316/316l is more corrosion resistant than 304/304L.
If you want to cut a thin piece of stainless steel, especially sheets, using a pair of tin snips is the best option.
Place the tin snip on the edges of the sheet the same way you use a pair of scissors and slowly cut through the mark you made using a marker.
