Pneumatic rubber fenders are made of synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheets with compressed air inside at initial pressure of 50kPa (low pressure) or 80kPa (high pressure) to enable it to float on water and work as a shock absorber between two ships or between ship and a dock. Although manufactured using different techniques, both low and high pressure fenders work by the same principle.

The purpose of the pneumatic rubber fender
1.Ship to ship berthing
Accompanied by a large ship, the risk of two ship berthing at sea is also increased, especially when the weather changes, accompanied by wind and waves.Adopt pneumatic fender as side of the buffer, not only make heavy berthing becomes easy, and improve the efficiency of the transportation operations. Pneumatic fender is mainly used for: Ice in the Antarctic ocean fishing ships, large oil tanker berthing.
2. Used for terminal dock protection
Of the ship is very large, the cause of berthing impact energy have multiplied.Inflatable rubber fender because of its high energy absorption and low reaction force features are widely used.

Net-type fenders are covered with a chain net, wire net or fiber net for fenders. Usually these nets have used-tires together with rubber sleeves for additional protection, except fiber net which has only rubber sleeves. Chain nets last longer against corrosion, while wire nets are light and more easily repaired.

Sling-type fenders have an attachment eye on each end for lifting and installation. Handling of sling type fenders is easy due to their lightweight.

Classification of pneumatic ship rubber fender:

Fender types:

1.Net-type fenders: fenders which are covered by a tire chain net, each end shall be linked together with one to two ring(s).

2.Sling-type fender: fenders which are designed to be used without a protection net.

Initial internal pressure:

1.Pneumatic fender 50 (initial internal pressure 50 KPa)

2.Pneumatic fender 80 (initial internal pressure 80 KPa)

Tests of Pneumatic Fender
1. Material test for rubber
The material test of the outer rubber and the inner rubber shall be conducted in accordance with the physical properties of inner and outer rubber required by ISO 17357:2002
2.Dimensional inspection
The dimension of all the fenders shall be inspected at the initial internal pressure and the results shall be within the following tolerances:
- length: +10%, -5%;
-diameter: +10%,-5%
3.Air-leakage test
The air-leakage test shall be conducted on all the fenders at initial pressure for more than 30 min, and the test results shall confirm that there is no air leakage.
4.Hydrostatic-pressure test
The hydrostatic-pressure test shall be performed for 10 min at the hydrostatic-pressure shown in “test pressure at 0% deflection”. Maximum temporary elongation: 10%
