Why is magnesium good for cars?
Magnesium is an attractive material for automotive use, primarily
because of its light weight - 36% lighter per unit volume than
aluminum and 78% lighter than iron. When alloyed, Mg has the
highest strength-to-weight ratio of all the structural metals.
What is the advantage for magnesium alloy?
The advantage of magnesium alloys to be used in such applications
is their light weight, high strength-to-weight ratio, high
stiffness-to-weight ratio, castability, machinability, and great
damping.
Is magnesium alloy stronger than steel?
Magnesium is 33 percent lighter than aluminum and 75 percent
lighter than steel, it's the lightest structural metal. Magnesium
offers an excellent resistance / weight ratio and appears as the
most powerful metal if is sought without sacrificing rigidity.
