1. Is it safe to store lithium batteries in the house?
It's crucial that lithium-ion batteries are stored in a cool, dry
environment to maintain the performance of the battery — as well as
its safety. Therefore, we recommend storing batteries in an inside
environment, that is away from direct sunlight, excess heat,
ignition sources and flammable substances.
2. Do lithium batteries need to be refrigerated?
In short: no. While cold environments help maintain battery life,
refrigerators and freezers are not safe to put batteries in. The
moist environment will cause condensation on the batteries. This in
turn will lead to rust or other damage.
3. What is the safest way to store lithium-ion batteries at home?
The environment in which your batteries reside should be a mild
one. Batteries should be stored away from sunlight, heat, and
humidity. Keep the storage area ventilated and dry, and maintain a
relatively steady temperature. The ideal battery storage
temperature is around 59℉, but most room temperatures will suffice.
4. What happens if you charge a lithium battery too long?
When overcharged, lithium ion batteries may overheat, explode and
cause fires. Even slight overcharging reduces a cell's discharge
capacity, leading to over-discharging, which increases impedance
and heat generation, and decreases cell lifetime.
