5) Product information and advantages
 
The stepping motor converts the electric pulse sequence applied to its excitation winding into precisely defined stepwise mechanical shaft rotation. For each discrete pulse, the shaft of the stepping motor rotates by a fixed angle. This rotation may be linear or angular. For a single pulse input, it moves one step. When a series of pulses are applied, it will rotate by a certain angle. The angle that the shaft of each pulse stepping motor rotates is called the step angle, which is usually expressed in degrees.

The number of pulses input to the motor determines the step angle, so the position of the stepping motor shaft is controlled by controlling the number of pulses. This unique characteristic makes the stepper motor very suitable for open-loop control systems, where the precise position of the shaft is maintained by the precise number of pulses, without the use of feedback sensors.
