The gear cutting process involves removing material from a blank
gear to form the gear teeth. There are two main methods used for
spiral bevel gear cutting: a: Gleason method: The Gleason method is
widely used in the mass production of spiral bevel gears. It
involves the use of a special machine, called a Gleason machine,
which produces a combination of gear rolling and cutting actions to
produce the gear tooth profile. b. Klingelnberg method: The
Klingelnberg method is another commonly used cutting method for
spiral bevel gears. It utilizes a Klingelberger machine, which uses
generative motion to create gear tooth profiles. This method is
known for its accuracy and flexibility in producing high-quality
gears.
