What are the characteristics of cylindrical gears?
Tooth Profile: Cylindrical gears have teeth that are cut in a
cylindrical shape around the gear's circumference. The most common
tooth profile for cylindrical gears is the involute profile, which
provides smooth and efficient power transmission.
Module and Pitch: Cylindrical gears are specified by their module
(metric) or pitch (imperial), which defines the size and spacing of
the teeth. The module or pitch is crucial for ensuring proper gear
meshing and compatibility with other gears in the system.
Pressure Angle: The pressure angle is the angle between the tangent
to the gear tooth profile and the line representing the direction
of the force between meshing gears. The most common pressure angle
for cylindrical gears is 20 degrees (commonly known as the
"standard" pressure angle).
Gear Ratio: The gear ratio of cylindrical gears is determined by
the ratio of the number of teeth on the driving gear to the number
of teeth on the driven gear. The gear ratio affects the speed and
torque transmission between the gears.
