SAE washers or high tensile washers in the size range of 1/4" to 3" can also be available with zinc plated or hot-dip galvanized (HDG) finishes.
Zinc plated washers are coated with a layer of zinc through a process called electroplating. This coating provides a moderate level of corrosion resistance and helps to prevent rusting. The choice between zinc plated and HDG finishes depends on factors such as the level of corrosion protection needed, the environmental conditions the washers will be exposed to, and the desired longevity of the coating. HDG provides superior corrosion resistance compared to zinc plating but may have a different appearance due to the thicker coating.
