IEC Type 2 Connector
IEC 62196-2 connectors are used for charging electric vehicles,
mainly in Europe. Because it was declared a standard by the EU.
Based on the widely available red IEC 60309 three-phase plug with
five pins. Depending on the maximum current there are different
diameters (most commonly 16A and 32A), so a single size was chosen.
Because the maximum possible power will be communicated to the car
via two additional communication pins and a simple resistor code
inside the cable. The onboard charger in the car must limit the
current accordingly.
The connector is round with a flat top edge. The initial design
specification comes with an output electrical power of 3-50 kW for
charging battery electric vehicles using single-phase (230V) or
three-phase (400V) alternating current (AC). In general, the
typical maximum power is 32A 7.2 kW using single-phase AC and 22 kW
using three-phase AC. The plug has an opening on the side so that
both the car and the charger can automatically lock the plug. To
