How it really works
A tin alloy or a silver alloy with comparative low melting point is
used as the fuse wire. This wire is housed inside a fuse holder.
When the wire melts down, the holder gets disconnected from the
system and hangs from the lower hinge. This hanging indicates the
occurrence of a surge, thus signalling repair and operational
attention.
Most drop out fuses are connected with a polymeric insulator that separates the wire part from the support.
