CO2 laser is a gas beam obtained by exciting carbon dioxide molecules, and its wavelength is 10.6 μ m; The fiber laser is a solid laser obtained by putting a crystal of Yb(ytterbium) compound as a medium in the fiber and irradiating the crystal with a light beam, and its wavelength is 1.08 μ m. The physical characteristic of different wavelengths has a great influence on the processing characteristics of both.

At first, the concept of fiber laser was recognized because it is a laser that can propagate through optical fiber. The reason why it can propagate through optical fiber lies in its wavelength, and it is precisely because of its wavelength of 1.08μm that it can propagate through optical fiber. CO2 laser cutting machine propagates laser with the aid of a mirror from the vibration generator to the processing point, and usually propagates in an optical path isolated from the outside air.
