Tying Machine
In a modern corrugated board system, the paper rolls are
automatically replaced by a splicing device (also called a
splicer). The name comes from the English word "to splice," meaning
"join" or "splice" - a nautical term used to join ropes or for
weaving eyelets.
While the old reel runs on one arm of the unreel, the new reel is
ready for replacement. The beginning of the web of the new reel is
pulled over a roller into the "adhesive carrier," sucked through a
vacuum and ready to tape the sides. The starting portion of the
volume prepared in this way is then brought close to the "old" web
that is still running.
Rewinding can now be triggered by pressing a on, or automatically
when the paper is torn or the volume is empty. Automatically
triggers old reel deceleration and new reel quick start. The two
sheets are connected to each other only within the width of the
tape. The "old" sheet is cut off, with only a small "overflow" and
little waste. Only blanks with joints may have to be discarded.
