Efforts to wean patients with a tracheostomy usually involve the
administration of oxygen via High Humidity device. There are two
major ways of administering oxygen to patients which include low
flow delivered at less than 10Liters per minute (LPM) and high-flow
delivered at greater than 10LPM.
What is a tracheostomy mask used for?
Tracheostomy mask allows for the delivery of oxygen therapy to
patients who have had a tracheostomy. The mask is contructed of
molded transparent, medical grade PVC. It comes equipped with a
swivel adapter and a spandex terylene adjustable strap for added
comfort.
What is the flow rate for a tracheostomy mask?
The minimum flow rate through any face mask or tracheostomy mask is
4 LPM as this prevents the possibility of CO2 accumulation and CO2
re-breathing.
