Composition, properties and typical uses of brass

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The simplest brasses are copper-zinc binary alloys called simple brass or plain brass, and varying the amount of zinc in the brass can result in brasses with different mechanical properties. The higher the zinc content in brass, the higher the strength and the lower the plasticity. The zinc content of brass used in industry is not more than 45%. If the zinc content is higher, brittleness will be produced and the properties of the alloy will be deteriorated. Adding 1% tin to brass can significantly improve the corrosion resistance of brass to seawater and Marine atmosphere, so it is called "navy brass". Tin can improve the workability of brass. Lead brass is what we commonly call easy to cut national standard copper. The main purpose of adding lead is to improve the machinability and wear resistance. Lead has little influence on the strength of brass. Sculpting copper is also a kind of lead brass. Most brass has good color, processability, ductility, easy plating or coating.

An alloy consisting of one or more other elements added to a matrix of pure copper. Pure copper is purple red, also known as red copper. The density of pure copper is 8.96, the melting point is 1083℃, has excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, ductility and corrosion resistance. It is mainly used for making electrical equipment such as generator, bus, cable, switching device, transformer and heat exchanger, pipeline, solar heating device, plate collector and other thermal conductivity equipment. Commonly used copper alloys are divided into brass, bronze and white copper.
