Cast bronze bushings
Tin bronze alloys are typically found in gear, high-strength bushing and bearing applications where high strength and low speeds and heavy loads are present. Other high-strength applications for these alloys are pump impellers, piston rings, steam fittings and valve bodies. Tin bronze castings are utilized in movable bridge components, turntables for bridges and other structures for fixed and expansion bearings with slow or intermittent movement with heavy loads.

The self-lubricating graphite plugged bronze sleeve bushings are machined from continuous cast bronze bar stock. They are then milled and plugged with solid lubricant graphite based plugs. Graphited bearings should be soaked in lubricant prior to application. The graphite absorbs the lubricant, which is then transferred to the shaft when heated by the shaft motion. This action provides oil needed to lubricate but not in sufficient quantity to cause leakage at the bearing ends. The oil is re-absorbed by the graphite when motion ceases.
Plug graphiting is accomplished by drilling a rowed, staggered hole configuration through the bearing wall and pressing graphite into these holes and hard baking. The size and number of drilled holes and the number of rows is determined by the bearing length and diameter.
