FAQ: What should I do if the high pressure pump fails? Fuel metering unit open circuit

ERIKC Answer: Fault phenomenon:

1) The fault light is on; 2) The rail pressure relief valve opens and the vehicle enters the limp home mode.

Possible Causes:

1) The ECU is open to the harness of the fuel metering unit; 2) The ECU is in poor contact with the connector pins/connector pins; the connector pins/connector pins at the metering valve are not in good contact. 3) The coil of the fuel metering unit itself is open.

Troubleshoot

1) Measure the resistance between the two pins of the fuel metering unit with the wiring harness disconnected. Normally, it should be about 3Ω at 20°C. If it is not in the range, the metering valve will fail. 2) Disconnect the 3.09 pin and measure the resistance between this terminal and the other valve of the metering valve. Should be about 3Ω, if not within the range, 3.09 wire open or bad contact at the first end; 3) disconnect the 3.09 and 3.10 pin connections, measure the resistance between the two ends of the harness. It should be about 3Ω. If it is not in the range, the 3.10 line is open or the 2 end is in poor contact.
