Speedometer Cable How it works
The shaft of the car engine transmits the power to the gearbox, and
the transmission ratio from the output shaft of the gearbox to the
wheels is unchanged. A "soft shaft" is installed on the output

front of the driver. The so-called "flex shaft" is a spiral tube
with a steel wire core like the pull wire used in bicycle brakes.
There is lubricating oil between the tube wall and the inner core.
The outer tube is fixed and the inner core can rotate. have a
constant proportional relationship. The flexible shaft leads to the
speedometer, so that the pointer can indicate the speed of the car.
At the same time, the rotation of the flexible shaft is also
transmitted to the roller counter in the middle of the speedometer
through the worm gear, and the mileage represented by the number of
revolutions of the wheel is accumulated, because the speed and
mileage are driven by the rotating action from the same flexible
shaft. , so the two tables are together, the former is indicated by
the pointer, and the latter is accumulated by the roller counter.
