What is a robot assisted locator?
Robot assisted locator (workpiece locator) is a programmable
mechanical device equipped with one or more external axes that can
work synchronously with an industrial robot to expand its
performance. The workpiece will be placed on the locator and can be
independently controlled to enhance the flexibility of the robot.
Auxiliary locators come in many different sizes, types, and
configurations to choose from, from the simplest, single axis
turntable to the most complex multi axis combination.
The basic purpose of the workpiece locator is to expand the working
range of the robot. This is a bit like other auxiliary external
axes - robots are placed on a linear axis, crankshaft, or truss.
However, unlike the auxiliary outer axis, the workpiece itself is
the moving part, not the robot.
Is your application suitable for equipping with robot assisted
locators?
When considering whether a robot assisted locator is needed, the
first question to consider is whether your robot application is
suitable for equipped with such a device. After all, there are many
robot applications that do not require additional degrees of
freedom, and relying solely on the robot's own degrees of freedom
is sufficient to perform job tasks.
The best way is to ask myself: Will my application be limited by
the working range of the robot? If the answer is yes, then you can
consider configuring a locator (or other auxiliary outer shaft)
that meets the requirements.
The most common applications that require the use of locators are
robot welding and robot machining. In these tasks, the robot's six
degrees of freedom are used to accurately operate the tool, leaving
little room for it to touch the workpiece from other directions. At
this point, when the welded or machined parts have more complex
geometric shapes, auxiliary locators are usually necessary.

About the company
Our guide rail has cooperated with many international well-known robot brands, such as ABB KUKA FANUC Yaskawa UR. The companies involved mainly include palletizing, loading and unloading. The load of the guide rail ranges from 500kg to 5000kg. The length of the guide rail is customized according to the needs of customers. We have made a case that an ABB IRB6700 robot corresponds to 20 CNC machines, and a 50m long guide rail completes the reciprocating motion, loading and unloading of the robot. The number of robots is greatly reduced and the integration cost is saved.
Our company also offers industrial robots at very favorable prices
to place orders together at lower prices.
