When to use a Thermocouple Connector

Although the simplest of thermocouples end in bare wires (as found in many laboratory and industrial/research applications, for example), there are many other applications where a connector is usually desirable to make life easier.

 The connector is usually used to connect the thermocouple sensor to thermocouple or extension cables, then on to the reference junction and the instrumentation concerned. The connectors allow for rapid fitting or exchange of sensors without sacrificing thermocouple conductor uniformity. Plug and jacks are designed so that their installation can be made simply and securely, with designed-in locking mechanisms. Plugs and jacks are polarized by size and are usually marked for negative and positive polarity. Although there is no standard as such, connectors are generally pin compatible with devices from several manufacturers.


These round pin standard connectors are ideal for connecting thermocouple sensors and extension or compensating wire to each other.

The pins are polarised to avoid an incorrect connection and the connector body is additionally marked for polarity.
 

 

Thermocouple connectors can also be ordered in a smaller compact size which are typically called mini thermocouple plugs and jacks.
The male mini thermocouple plugs have smaller flat polarized plugs.
Thermocouple plugs and jacks can be ordered in a variety of body materials with various temperature ratings to suite your application.
 
High Purity Alumina Ceramic Thermocouple Connectors are also available for high temperature applications up to 650℃.
 
All thermocouple Connectors can be ordered in Type E, J, K, N, T, R, S, and B thermocouple calibrations and with ANSI or IEC Color Coded bodies.
