The carbon cups are used matching with the carbon and silicon
analyzer to quickly analyze carbon content, silicon content and
carbon equivalent in molten iron, which can save smelting time of
molten iron, greatly reduce production cycle of white and grey cast
iron and therefore increase production efficiency.
Principle of measurement:
Collection of temperature curves is conducted by microprocessor.
Contents of carbon and silicon, and quality of molten iron can be
calculated by crystallization process of molten iron.

Indication in working process: the carbon cup is connected with
three signal indicators on the panel of “Ready”, “Measurement” and
“Finish” through potential free reed relay.
Method of application:
1. Put the carbon cup on the cup base with the positive and
negative electrode correctly installed, when the green light on the
carbon and silicon analyzer is on.
2. Get a spoon of clean molten iron and pour in the carbon cup. It
is better to make sure temperature of molten iron is 50-100 ℃
higher than liquidus temperature. If temperature of molten iron is
too low, liquidus temperature cannot be measured; if temperature of
molten iron is too high, it is likely to fuse the thermocouple
wire. It is required that injected amount of molten iron is nearly
90-100% of the carbon cup. If injected amount is too little,
temperature platform will become steep and thus correct feature
points cannot be recognized; if injected amount is too much, molten
iron will spill out, additives in carbon cups measuring components
and performance of molten iron will lose and thus the carbon cup
will not work. At this time, green light of the carbon and silicon
analyzer is off and yellow light is on.
3. In about 4 minutes, yellow light is off, red light is on,
measurement is done and the measured data will be shown on the
screen and in the meantime analytical data can be printed. After
once measurement, the carbon cup used should be taken down as soon
as possible in order to avoid temperature rise of the cup base. Or
it will influences subsequent measurement accuracy.
