The interface is called D-Sub because it looks like an uppercase letter D. This is an analog signal or digital signal interface with different numbers of interfaces on demand. D-sub, short for D-subminiature, is a standard for the shape and structure of interfaces. It was invented by ICC in 1952. Since at the time, this interface was small, it was only named subminiature. D-sub contains several subclasses, such as DB25.
