Hafnium chemical properties and zirconium is very similar, with
good corrosion resistance, not easy to be eroded by general acid
and alkali aqueous solution; Easily soluble in hydrofluoric acid to
form fluorine complex. Under high temperature, hafnium can also be
directly combined with oxygen, nitrogen and other gases to form
oxides and nitrides. The crustal abundance of hafnium is greater
than that of the common metals bismuth, cadmium, mercury, and
comparable to that of beryllium, germanium, and uranium. Hafnium is
found in all minerals that contain zirconium. There is also a
metamorphic zircon cyrtolite that contains more than 5% HfO. The
latter two minerals are scarce and have not been adopted in
industry. Hafnium is recovered mainly from the production of
zirconium. Hafnium is useful, e.g. as a filament in an incandescent
lamp, because it readily emits electrons. Alloys of hafnium and
tungsten or molybdenum are used as the electrodes of high voltage
discharge tubes. Commonly used as cathodes for X-ray and tungsten
filament manufacturing industries. Pure hafnium with plasticity,
easy processing, high temperature resistance and corrosion
resistance, is an important material for atomic energy industry.
Hafnium is an ideal neutron absorber with large thermal neutron
capture cross-section and can be used as control rod and protection
device in atomic reactor. Hafnium powder can be used as propellers
for rockets. Cathodes for X-ray tubes can be manufactured in the
electrical industry. Hafnium alloy can be used as rocket nozzle and
glider re-entry aircraft front protection layer, HF-TA alloy can be
manufactured tool steel and resistance materials. Hafnium is used
as an added element in heat-resistant alloys, such as tungsten,
molybdenum, tantalum, and some added hafnium in alloys. HfC can be
used as carbide additive because of its high hardness and melting
point. The melting point of 4TaCHfC is about 4215℃, which is the
highest known compound. Hafnium is used as a getter in many
aerating systems. Hafnium getter can remove oxygen, nitrogen and
other unnecessary gases in the system. Hafnium is often used as an
additive in hydraulic oil to prevent the volatilization of
hydraulic oil in high-risk operations. It has strong
anti-volatilization, so it is generally used in industrial
hydraulic oil. Medical hydraulic fluid.
Nut is nut, screw together with bolt or screw used for fastening
parts, all production and manufacturing machinery must use a
component according to the different material, divided into carbon
steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals (such as copper) and
other major types.
