Thermal management system

 

  1. The thermal management system is equivalent to installing "air conditioner" for the power battery pack, because the charging and discharging process of the power battery is actually the process of chemical reaction. The chemical reaction will release a lot of heat, which needs to be taken away to keep the power battery within a reasonable working temperature range, so as to improve the service life and reliability of the power battery. There are four main types of thermal management systems: air cooling, water cooling, liquid cooling and phase change materials. Taking the water cooling system as an example, the thermal management system is mainly composed of cooling plate, cooling water pipe, heat insulation pad and heat conduction pad.
  2. Because of the internal resistance of the power battery and the impedance of the electrical connecting parts, the power battery pack will generate heat under the condition of charge and discharge. The greater the current, the greater the calorific value. If the internal heat cannot be dissipated in time, the service life of the power battery will be affected, resulting in rapid attenuation of the service life, or the heat will be out of control, resulting in safety problems. The thermal management system of power battery pack products is very complex, which needs to solve the problems of heating, heat dissipation, thermal insulation, thermal balance and so on.
  3. The first is the thermal management requirements for the external environment. In the high latitudes of the northern hemisphere, the outdoor temperature will reach - 30 ℃ or even lower in winter, while in the low latitudes, the ground temperature can reach more than 50 ℃ in summer. Electric vehicles must face the extreme environmental temperature requirements of cold and heat.
  4. The current power battery technology can not meet this challenge. In order to prolong the service life of the power battery and make the power battery work under such a wide ambient temperature, it is necessary to install an "air conditioning" system for the power battery when designing the power battery pack, so that the power battery can be cooled in summer and heated in winter, So as to solve the challenge brought by the wide range of ambient temperature.
