How Air Springs Work
When the air spring is working, the compressed air is filled into
the inside of the air spring to form a compressed air column. With
the increase of the vibration load, the height of the spring
decreases, the volume of the inner cavity decreases, the stiffness
of the spring increases, the effective bearing area of the air
column in the inner cavity increases, and the bearing capacity of
the spring increases at this time.
When the vibration load decreases, the height of the spring
increases, the volume of the inner cavity increases, the stiffness
of the spring decreases, the effective bearing area of the air
column in the inner cavity decreases, and the bearing capacity of
the spring decreases at this time.
In this way, within the effective stroke of the air spring, the
height, inner cavity volume, and bearing capacity of the air spring
can be smoothly and flexibly transmitted with the increase and
decrease of the vibration load, and the amplitude and vibration
load can be efficiently controlled. It is also possible to adjust
the stiffness and bearing capacity of the spring by increasing or
decreasing the amount of inflation, and an auxiliary air chamber
can also be attached to realize self-control adjustment.
The air spring has excellent nonlinear hard characteristics, so it
can effectively limit the amplitude, avoid resonance and prevent
shock. The natural frequency of the air spring vibration isolation
system can be designed very low, even below 1Hz, while the natural
frequency of the rubber vibration isolator is generally 5-7Hz.
Therefore, the vibration isolation efficiency of the air spring is much higher than that of other vibration isolation components, and it can isolate low frequency vibration. Especially because the air spring vibration isolation system is easy to implement active control, as a vibration isolation element with adjustable nonlinear static and dynamic stiffness and damping characteristics, air springs are more and more widely used.
