FAQ
1. IS STONE PAPER COMPLETELY DEGRADABLE?
Stone paper consists of the following components only: Calcium
carbonate and high density polyethylene. If it is no longer needed,
there are various disposal options. Stone paper begins to dissolve
under constant sunlight after a few months. After about a year it
will be dissolved in dust completely – similar to eggshells. Stone
paper can also be burnt without creating toxic gases. For this
reason, it is particularly suitable for the typical consumer
product carrier bags.
2. WHAT IS STONE PAPER MADE OF?
80% limestone powder and 20% HD polyethylene. Limestone, one of the
most abundant raw materials, comes as a waste product from
quarries. The plastic, which serves as a binding agent, can be
obtained from old plastic bottles, from maize or sugar cane waste.
3. CAN STONE PAPER BE PRINTED JUST LIKE PAPER?
Rock Paper can be printed just as easily as conventional cellulose
paper. There is even less ink required. Offset, Digital and UV
printing are the ideal technologies for printing stone paper. Laser
printers are rather unsuitable because they often develop strong
heat. Stone paper starts to deform at 65 degrees Celsius.
I4. S STONE PAPER MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY THAN PLASTIC?
Yes, stone paper is more environmentally friendly than plastic. If
plastics are not recycled they practically do not rot – unlike the
paper substitute stone-paper. After several hundred years, plastic
products will still be found in forests and oceans. Stone Paper
contains only 20% of the plastic HD-PE (high density polyethylene).
It consists of carbon and hydrogen atoms and burns completely to
CO2 and water.
