Product Description
Heat resistant steel plate / carbon steel plate price list
What is Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate?
1) Abrasion resistant (AR) steel plate is a high-carbon alloy steel
plate. This means that AR is harder due to the addition of carbon,
and formable and weather resistant due to added alloys.
2) Carbon added during the formation of the steel plate
substantially increases toughness and hardness, but reduces
strength. Therefore, AR plate is used in situations where abrasions
and wear and tear are the main causes of failure. AR plate is not
ideal for structural construction uses, like support beams in
bridges or buildings.
Common uses for AR plate include conveyors, buckets, dump liners,
construction attachments, grates, body armor and ballistic plates
(and as targets at shooting ranges).
How the Quenched & Tempered Process Creates AR Plate
Abrasion Resistant (AR) steel plate is typically made in the
as-rolled condition. These types/grades of steel plate products
have been developed specifically for long service life in harsh
conditions. AR products are suitable for a variety of applications
in areas such as mining/quarrying, conveyors, material handling and
construction, and earthmoving.
3) Designers and plant operators choose AR plate steel when
striving to extend the service life of critical components, and
reduce the weight of each unit put into service. The benefits of
employing wear-resistant plate steel in applications involving
impact and/or sliding contact with abrasive material are immense.
4) Steel plate for use in abrasive conditions is not typical
because it is not governed by any ASTM code or spec. Many steel
plate manufacturers produce their own brand of abrasion resistant
steel and these are usually distinguished by a brand name followed
by the hardness of the steel which is measured in Brinell units
5) AR material is produced by quenching and tempering forged steel
blocks, or ingots. During this process, the grain structure is
changed to increase toughness and encourage formability (or, to be
less brittle), and results in through-hardening of the material.
