1. Introduction of self tapping screws:
Stainless steel phillips pan head sheet metal screws will have no problem punching through a thin or light guage sheet metal but will require a pilot hole for a thicker guage metal; the phillips drive has a tendency to slip if there is too much torque applied during installation and these machine screws being made of a high quality stainless steel which is softer than other non corrosion resistant fasteners are also susceptible to stripping so it is recomended to use a slower speed or to set the clutch on the driver so when the machine screw is fastened completely the drill does not shred the phillips drive.
