Rod mill

 

The rod mill is a rotating drum that causes friction and attrition between steel rods and ore particles. Rod mills are less common than ball mills for grinding minerals.The rods used in the mill, usually a high-carbon steel, can vary in both the length and the diameter. However, the smaller the rods, the larger is the total surface area and hence, the greater the grinding efficiency.

1. Usages

 

Widely used in mineral processing, chemical, building materials and other industrial sectors, as a variety of ore or other abrasive materials for grinding purposes.

 

2. How it works

 

The mill is edge driven and center discharge type. When the machine body is rotating, the hard grinding body is driven by the friction force to continuously carry out ejection movement. The material is highly ground due to the impact and grinding of the moving abrasive body. The crushed material is discharged through the discharge spiral drum.

 

3. Structural features

 

The mill is mainly composed of rotary part, main bearing, feeding device and transmission device. This machine is a rod mill, the discharge is at the big gear end of the transmission device.

 

3.1. Turning part: it is composed of cylinder made of steel plate by rolling welding and two end covers connected by bolts. A lining plate is arranged in the cylinder body to protect the cylinder body and the end cover. In order to check and replace the parts in the mill barrel and install the grinding body into the mill, the mill is equipped with a grinding door. The two hollow end covers are connected with the two ends of the barrel through the flange. The plane of flange plate and the Journal of hollow end cover require high machining accuracy. When the end cover is a small end cover, there is a flange connecting the big gear on the cylinder body. The processing of the cylinder flange also requires high precision, and the rotating part of the cylinder is supported on two main bearings.

 

3.2. The main bearing is not only able to bear the weight of the whole mill, grinding body and materials, but also affected by the moment resistance when the mill rotates. In order to reduce the friction moment, energy consumption, cooling and lubrication workload, and maintenance convenience, the main bearing has been changed into a double row radial spherical roller bearing.

 

3.3. Feeding device: feeding spiral drum.

 

3.4. Discharge device: discharge spiral drum.

 

3.5. Transmission device: the motor and reducer drive the pinion of the transmission bridge through the coupling, and the pinion engages with the big gear fixed in the rotating part to make the mill rotate. The transmission arrangement of the mill shall not be changed at will. If it cannot be changed for some reason, the force of the pinion on the big gear must be guaranteed to be always upward. If the rotation direction of the mill is changed, the directional parts of the rotating part of the mill shall be changed accordingly.
