High-Performance, Mechanically Durable Resins
Tefzel™ ETFE (ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene) resins are melt-processable copolymers with a reputation for excellent physical toughness and resistance to radiation, chemicals, UV, and extreme temperatures. They also can be customized for desired color, reinforcement, and conductivity levels, allowing them to be used in a variety of high-performance products and components.

Available as pellets or powder, Tefzel™ ETFE resins have multiple applications, which include:
* Electrical insulation and heat-shrinkable tubing
* Wire and cable, including wrapped computer terminations, heavy power circuits, steel mill cables, airframe wire, downhole well logging cable, and rapid transit car and locomotive control wire
* Load-bearing applications in abusive environments
* Cable and hydraulic line clamps, cable straps, and other fasteners
* Valve linings
* Pressure-sensitive tapes, flexible printed circuits, liquid pouches, and other constructions needing a film form
* Biomedical and labware equipment, including oxygen respirator components, blood analyzer valves, evaporating dishes, and centrifuge tubes

Features and Benefits

Whether powder or pellet, Tefzel™ ETFE resins offer relatively low melting points and high-melt flow rates (MFRs), making them easy to process by conventional melt-extrusion techniques and injection-, compression-, transfer-, rotational-, and blow-molding processes.
Other characteristics of Tefzel™ ETFE resins include:
* Low wear factor (1/10 of reinforced nylon)
* High-impact strength and dimensional stability
* Heat resistance with a rating for temperatures up to 150 °C (302 °F) based on the 20,000-hour criterion and good creep resistance
* Low flammability
* Specific gravity of 1.7
* Strong weathering capabilities (up to at least 20 years)
* Low-moisture absorption
* UV resistance
* Resistance to solvents, acids, and bases 

Tefzel™ ETFE HT-2184 is a premium fluoropolymer resin in powder form. It provides the superior properties typical of fluoropolymer resins, such as excellent retention of properties after service, chemical inertness, and mechanical toughness.

Tefzel™ ETFE HT-2184 and the other Tefzel™ fluoropolymers are melt processible, modified copolymers of ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene. They are high-performance resins that can be processed at relatively high rates, compared with other fluorocarbon resins. They are mechanically tough and offer an excellent balance of properties.

Tefzel™ ETFE HT-2184 is preferred for applications where materials must be dispersed in an ETFE matrix. Materials can be well dispersed in the powder and then either compression molded or melt mixed for additional processing.

Properly processed rotational moldings made from Tefzel™ ETFE HT-2195 provide the superior properties typical of the fluoroplastic resins: retention of properties after service at 150 °C (302 °F), useful properties at –100 °C (–148 °F), and chemical inertness to most industrial chemicals and solvents. Molded products have excellent stiffness and high ultimate elongation.

Properly processed products made from neat Tefzel™ ETFE HT-2184 are inert to most solvents and chemicals, hydrolytically stable, and weather-resistant. The recommended upper service temperature is 155 °C (311 °F); useful properties are retained at cryogenic ranges. The level and stability of dielectric properties are excellent, and the flame rating is V-0 by the UL94 method. They are resistant to environmental stress cracking and have outstanding impact strength, cut-through, and abrasion resistance.
