DESCRIPTION
Teflon™ is a registered trademark of Chemours for its fluoropolymer
resins. Teflon™ PTFE fluoropolymer resins are part of the family of
fluorine-based products that also includes Teflon™ FEP and Teflon™
PFA and Tefzel™ fluoropolymer resins. These materials can be used
to make a variety of articles having a combination of mechanical,
electrical, chemical, temperature, and friction resisting
properties unmatched by articles made of any other material.
Commercial use of these and other valuable properties combined in
one material has established Teflon™ PTFE fluoropolymer resins as
outstanding engineering materials for use in many industrial and
military applications. Teflon™ PTFE fluoropolymer resins may also
be compounded with fillers or reinforcing agents to modify their
performance in use. The design and engineering data presented in
this handbook are intended to assist the design engineer in
determining where and how Teflon™ PTFE fluoropolymer resins may
best be used. It is recommended that the design engineer work
closely with an experienced fabricator because the method of
fabrication may markedly affect not only production
costs, but also the properties of the finished article.
DuPont Teflon PTFE NXT85 is a free-flowing, pelletized, chemically modified granular resin (its equivalent fine-cut resin is Teflon® NXT 75). It provides superior processing characteristics in addition to properties of chemically modified resins. This resin offers excellent powder flow and high bulk density.
When properly processed, Teflon® PTFE NXT85 exhibits the superior properties typical of the fluoropolymer resins: nonaging characteristics, chemical inertness, heat resistance, toughness and flexibility, low coefficient of friction, nonstick characteristics, negligible moisture absorption, and weather resistance. In addition to typical properties of fluoropolymers, this chemically modified resin offers weldability, improved resistance to deformation under load, increased resistance to permeation of chemicals, and a higher dielectric breakdown strength. It provides a high degree of weldability for applications where the use of elevated temperature and pressure are limited.
Chemours was formed from former DuPont performance chemicals businesses, including DuPont Fluoroproducts, in 2015.
When properly processed, it offers an excellent combination of properties that are characteristic of Teflon™ fluoroplastic resins:

In addition, this resin offers weldability, improved resistance to deformation under load, increased resistance to permeation of chemicals, and a higher dielectric breakdown voltage. It exhibits minimal sagging in billets as large as 350 kg (800 lb).
