●Introduction

When you turn on an electrical equipment, the surge current can be restrained by a power NTC termistor connected in series with the power circuit. Because of the continuing action of current,temperature of power NTC thermistor raising, the resistance will rapidly drop to a small value, the consumed power can be ignored. So it can't affect normal operating current. Therefore, using power NTC thermistor is a most effectively and most brief measure to restrain surge current, protecting electrical equipment from destruction.

Technical parameters of thermistor

1. Nominal resistance Rc: generally refers to the actual resistance value of the thermistor when the ambient temperature is 25°C.
2. Actual resistance value RT: The resistance value measured under certain temperature conditions.
3. Material constant: It is a parameter describing the physical characteristics of the thermistor material, and it is also an index of thermal sensitivity. The larger the B value, the higher the sensitivity of the thermistor. It should be noted that in actual work, the B value is not a constant, but increases slightly with the increase of temperature.
4. Temperature coefficient of resistance αT: It indicates the rate of change of resistance value when the temperature changes by 1°C, and the unit is %/°C.
5. Time constant τ: The thermistor has thermal inertia, and the time constant is a parameter describing the thermal inertia of the thermistor. It is defined as the time required for the temperature of the thermistor body to change by 63.2% of the difference between the two specific temperatures when the ambient temperature suddenly changes from one specific temperature to another specific temperature in the state of no power consumption . The smaller the τ, the smaller the thermal inertia of the thermistor.
6. Rated power PM: Under the specified technical conditions, the power dissipation allowed by the thermistor's long-term continuous load. Do not exceed the rated power in actual use. If the ambient temperature where the thermistor operates exceeds 25°C, its load must be reduced accordingly.
7. Rated operating current IM: The nominal current value specified by the thermistor under working conditions.
8. Measuring power Pc: Under the specified ambient temperature, the electric power consumed when the thermistor body is heated by the test current and the resistance value change does not exceed 0.1%.
9. Maximum voltage: For NTC thermistors, it refers to the maximum DC voltage allowed to be continuously applied without causing thermal runaway of the thermistor under the specified ambient temperature; In ambient temperature and still air, the maximum DC voltage allowed to be continuously applied to the thermistor and ensure the normal operation of the thermistor in the PTC characteristic part.
10. Maximum operating temperature Tmax: Under the specified technical conditions, the maximum temperature allowed by the thermistor for long-term continuous operation.
11. Switching temperature tb: The temperature at which the resistance value of the PTC thermistor begins to jump.
12. Dissipation coefficient H: When the temperature increases by 1°C, the power dissipated by the thermistor is in mW/°C.
