Membrane separation: The core of the nitrogen generator using membrane separation technology is the separation membrane. The membrane is composed of thousands of hollow fibers through which compressed air can pass. The walls of each fiber can pass gas molecules, but some gases pass more easily than others.

 

These "fast" gases, including oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor, pass through the fiber walls and are discharged into the atmosphere. The "slow" gas, nitrogen, passes through the fiber walls much slower, creating a high-purity nitrogen stream at the membrane exit. There are no moving parts on the membrane, just control the pressure and flow rate of the compressed air passing through the membrane to produce high-purity nitrogen.
