Machining Service

In the realm of metal fabrication, milling stands out as the most prevalent method for material

removal. CNC milling machines, renowned for their exceptional precision and accuracy,

find extensive application in cutting an array of metals.

The outcome of milling can vary depending on factors such as the material's type, strength,

and hardness. Certain metal alloys, like titanium, exhibit exceptional durability and can withstand

demanding environments.

Other noteworthy metal alloys encompass aluminum, copper, brass, zinc, bronze, stainless steel,

and steel. Metal milling encompasses processes such as shaping, cutting, drilling, and tapping.

Product Details

CNC milling machines excel at cutting a wide range of materials, including aluminum, bronze,

copper, ceramics, plywood, various steel types, stone, wood, zinc, and numerous engineering

materials.

This versatility makes them perfect for crafting prototypes during product development.

With CNC milling, you can easily fine-tune and make precise adjustments until you achieve the

desired final product, offering accuracy and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process.

Common Materials for CNC Machining
MaterialProperties
Aluminum2024: Good fatigue resistance and strength; excellent toughness at moderate to high strength levels; improved fracture toughness
6061: Excellent machinability, low cost, and versatility
7075: High strength, hardness, low weight, and heat tolerance
Stainless SteelExcellent machinability and outstanding uniformity; good workability and weldability, high ductility and formability
Steel AlloyMix of chromium, molybdenum, and manganese yields toughness, good torsional and fatigue strength
BrassVersatile and highly attractive copper/zinc alloy with warm yellow color accommodates severe forming/drawing
TitaniumExcellent strength to weight ratio, used in aerospace, automotive, and medical industries
CopperHigh ductility and high electrical and thermal conductivity; develops attractive blue-green surface patina over time
ABSExcellent impact resistance, good mechanical properties, susceptible to solvents
NylonExcellent mechanical properties, high toughness, poor moisture resistance
POMHigh stiffness, excellent thermal & electrical properties, relatively brittle

CNC Machining Tolerances

Tolerances are not standardized across all processes and materials.

The final tolerances on your part depend on various factors, such as part size, design complexity,

the number and size of features, materials used, surface finish, and the manufacturing process

employed.

Once your order is confirmed, we conduct a Design for Manufacturing review to identify areas that

may need modification for better manufacturability.

It's helpful if you can specify which areas in your design have critical tolerances that must be met

and which can be adjusted, if necessary, to optimize production time and cost.

FAQ's

1. Why choose CNC machining?

CNC machining offers speed, precision, and versatility that stand out among manufacturing

solutions. It can produce end-use parts in any quantity without requiring significant investments

in hard tooling or costly setups.

2. How much do CNC machining materials cost?

The cost of CNC machining materials can vary significantly due to the wide range of materials

available for this process.

Each material comes with its own unique price point, and the physical characteristics of the chosen

material also play a role in determining the overall machining cost.

For those looking to produce metal parts, Aluminum 6061 often stands out as the most

cost-effective option.

On the other hand, if you're considering plastic materials, ABS typically ranks as the most

budget-friendly choice.

Moreover, the ease of machining a particular material can impact its cost.

Stainless steel serves as a prime example of this. Given its higher hardness compared to aluminum,

machining stainless steel can be more challenging, which in turn tends to raise the overall

machining cost.

3. Machined Part Tolerances Explained

For most metal geometries, our tolerances are within +0.005" / -0.005". For plastics, it's typically

+/- 0.010". Tolerances may vary for large parts, especially those requiring flatness after heat

treatment.

"As Milled" finish requires a minimum 125 surface finish for CNC parts.

All fabricated parts adhere to a 0.010" dimensional and 1° angular tolerance.

Tapped holes not explicitly noted in the CAD model will match the specified diameters in that model.

Surface treatments like anodization, bead blasting, iridite, powder coating, etc., are only applied if

paid for and acknowledged in advance.
