Residential Solar Power Systems On grid 3kw solar generation power system

Description:

Grid Tied System

PV Array:

Sunlight passes through the silicone wafers in the PV modules knocking loose electrons which flow into

wires as Direct Current(DC) electricity.

Combiner Box:

The PV modules are wired together in a combiner box to output the correct system voltage( VDC )

DC Disconnect:

System shut-off with circuit breakers and ground fault protection. Required by code to ensure that all parts

of system can be disconnected from all sources of power.

AC Mains Panel and Meter:

Your grid power consumption and the power production from your PV array are metered here. Net matering

means you only pay the difference between what you use and what you produce.

AC Disconnect ( Utlity Accessible ):

AC output from your inverter and AC power from the grid are combined here with circuit breakers.

Inverter:

Direct Current ( DC) electricity from the PV Array is converted to Altemating Current ( AC) electricity to

supply the house loads and sell energy back to the grid.

The Micro-grid Dream House

Micro-wind turbine: The Sky-stream model from Southwest Wind-power delivers 2.4killowatts-up to 90% of

the average home’s use

Insulation: A typical home can cut 25% to 50% of energy use through simple weather proofing and from

energy-efficient appliance.

Time switch;A switch attached to a timer directs the power from the solar panels to batteries or onto the

grid. During the peak hours of noon to 2 p.m.. When power is most expensive, the house runs off the

batteries.

Batteries: Though not essential for a grid-connected system, battery storage allows more flexibility to go on

or off grid.

Smart meter: A commercial time-of-day electric meter shows the varying price of electricity, so the owner

can use less and sell more during peak hours.

Electric car: By next year, this power system could include a plug-in hybrid vehicle. The car battery can

serve as additional backup storage for the home and the grid.

Explore the following resources to reduce your electricity use:

Home energy audits: A home energy audit can help you understand where your home is losing energy and

what steps to take to improve the efficiency of your home.

Appliances and electronics: Use your appliances and electronics more efficiently, or consider investing in

highly efficient products.

Lighting: Switch to energy efficient lighting, such as LED light bulbs.

Heating and cooling: If you use electricity to heat and cool your home, your heating and cooling needs will

significantly affect the amount of solar energy you need. Weatherizing your home and heating and cooling

efficiently will reduce the amount of electricity you need to produce with solar.
