Progress in materials is a response to societal needs. The
principle of "survival of the fittest" in nature is equally
applicable in the realm of materials.
Polyaspartic polyurea 's rise to fame in the 21st century is
attributed to its outstanding properties, its versatility across a
broad range of applications, and its ease of application. In the
industry, polyaspartic polyurea is often referred to as the "noble
waterproofing coating," and its demand is soaring year by year.
According to industry forecasts, in the coming years, the
production of polyaspartic polyurea will far surpass that of
traditional waterproofing materials, like waterproofing membranes
and coatings.
The appeal of polyaspartic polyurea in the waterproofing sector
began with its exceptional properties, which are gradually
replacing traditional waterproofing materials. A significant reason
for this shift is its long lifespan. Many waterproofing repair
companies opt for polyaspartic polyurea during renovations or new
projects, showcasing the cutting-edge technology and immense market
value of this high-end waterproofing material.
So, what makes polyaspartic polyurea superior to traditional
waterproofing materials like waterproofing membranes and coatings?
Based on its independently developed series of polyurea products
and on-site technical guidance, Feiyang has summarized ten reasons
why polyaspartic polyurea outperforms traditional waterproofing
materials:
- Coating Performance: Polyaspartic polyurea boasts exceptional UV resistance, high
elasticity, and a tensile strength that exceeds 400%. Traditional
waterproofing materials can't match this. Polyaspartic polyurea
remains intact without cracking or powdering, even resisting leaks
caused by building settlement cracks.
- Tensile Strength: Polyaspartic polyurea's tensile strength exceeds 10MPa, indicating
its remarkable stress variation capacity. In contrast, traditional
membranes have a strength of just 3MPa, and coatings offer 6MPa.
This difference is a primary reason why traditional waterproof
layers are prone to tearing and delamination.
- Adhesion: Testing the bond between polyaspartic polyurea and the concrete
base layer reveals an average adhesion strength of over 4MPa.
Traditional waterproofing materials only achieve 2MPa. Insufficient
adhesion often results in the waterproof layer detaching or forming
air pockets, which are quality defects.
- Temperature Resistance: Traditional waterproofing materials cannot be applied at
temperatures below 5°C and might become brittle and crack in
extreme cold. They might also soften or even melt in high heat. In
contrast, polyaspartic polyurea can be used in a temperature range
of -20 to 120°C, making it suitable for both extremely cold and hot
environments.
- Integrity: Polyaspartic polyurea can be applied by hand brushing, roller
coating, or spraying, forming a seamless membrane. This continuity
eliminates the gaps that can occur with overlapped traditional
waterproofing rolls.
- Superior Weather Resistance: Polyaspartic polyurea inherently possesses excellent weather
resistance. It can be directly exposed as the outermost layer,
serving as a protective layer without needing an additional
protective layer, which reduces construction costs and building
load.
- Longevity: Polyaspartic polyurea has a lifespan exceeding 30 years, often
referred to as the "long-lasting coating" or "luxury coating."
Traditional waterproofing rolls last only 3-6 years, and coatings
last 1-5 years. This difference explains the industry's growing
affection for polyaspartic polyurea.
- Safety and Environmental Protection: Traditional waterproof rolls require heat to melt, posing fire
hazards and emitting harmful gases. Most coatings, except
water-based ones, contain diluents or solvents with high VOCs,
which are harmful, flammable, and explosive. Polyaspartic polyurea,
with 100% solid content and zero VOC emissions, is safe and
eco-friendly.
- Efficiency: Traditional waterproofing requires extensive manual labor, making
it slow and costly. Polyaspartic polyurea cures quickly and offers
diverse application methods, significantly saving time and labor.
- Convenience: Polyaspartic polyurea can be applied over old waterproofing
layers, eliminating the need to remove the existing layer, saving
time and costs associated with demolition.
Understanding these distinctions and the superior physical and
chemical properties of polyurea provides clarity on why it
surpasses traditional waterproofing materials.
