The only important new feature in Word 2019 is the converter pane, which is useful for users who need to use multiple languages. To use it to translate words or phrases, select them, then right-click on the selection and select "Translate" from the menu that appears. Note that Translator is part of Microsoft's so-called smart services, which are artificial intelligence behind Office functions such as smart queries and researchers. If this is your first time using one of these AI driver features, a screen will appear asking if you want to enable Smart Services. Click "Open." This happened once. You don't have to do this anymore.
After that, the Converter pane will appear. The top of the pane shows your choices and the bottom shows the translation. The top pane attempts to identify the original language. For me, it works fine every time. However, if it does identify the language incorrectly, just select the correct language. Then, at the bottom of the pane, select the language you want to translate.

If you have a touch-enabled device, you'll be happy to hear about the new ink feature added to Microsoft Office 2019. Under Ink Tools > Pen, you can choose settings such as ink color and stroke width.

You can use the Ink Tools > Eraser option in the Pen tab to highlight text or delete entire written text or text areas. All of these tools are now also available automatically on Office 365 for Web, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile.

The translation function of Word 2019 is in action.
To translate the entire document, go to the ribbon and select View > Translation > Translate Document. The Converter pane appears. Select the language of the document, then select the language you want to translate into, then click the Translate button. The translated document will open in a new Word window, and then you can save or copy some of the content.

The translator can also be used in PowerPoint and Excel 2019 to translate selected words or phrases, but you cannot use it to translate entire files in these applications.
