VAE latex, the abbreviation of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer latex, is a kind of high polymer latex copolymerized by the basic raw materials of vinyl acetate and ethylene monomer and other accessories with emulsion copolymerization. Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers are the most important products among ethylene copolymers, generally called as EVA abroad. However, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers are divided into EVA resin, EVA rubber and EVA latex in China according to the content of vinyl acetate. The products containing less than 40%vinyl acetate are generally called EVA resin; those containing 40%~70%vinyl acetate, tough and flexible, are called EVA rubber; those containing 70%~95% vinyl acetate are called VAE latex, ivory or light yellow.
VAE latex with many excellent performances is mainly applied for adhesive, paint, cement modifier and paper processing. With permanent flexibility, it can be taken as internal plasticizing product of polyvinyl acetate latex as it introduces molecular chain to polyvinyl acetate molecule, make the acetyl uncontinuous and increase the rotation degree of freedom; it has little space impediment, the polymer main chain becomes flexible and plasticizer will not transfer, thus guaranteeing the permanent flexibility. With excellent acid and alkali resistance, it can maintain its stability under conditions where weak acid and alkali exit; therefore, emulsion breaking will not appear and it can be expansively applied. Besides, it can resist UV and aging. As it adopts ethylene as the internal plasticizer of copolymer, the VEA copolymer has internal plasticization and the plasticizer will not transfer, avoiding the aging of copolymer performance. Therefore, not only VEA latex has excellent stability to UV light, but its film can maintain this feature. Furthermore, it has excellent mixing capacity. It can be mixed with most additives, such as dispersant, wetting agent, anti-freezing agent, defoamer, preservative, fire retardant, etc., meeting various requirements; it can also be mixed with many pigments and fillings without condensation as well as many low-molecular and high-molecular water soluble copolymers.
