Cerium Tungsten Electrode  WC20 W-Ce Electrode

1. Description of Cerium Tungsten Electrode WC20 W-Ce Electrode:

Cerium tungsten electrode is a tungsten electrode product made by adding rare earth cerium oxide to tungsten base through powder metallurgy and rolling grinding and polishing process. It is the earliest non-radioactive tungsten electrode product produced. The arc starting performance is better, and the arc current is smaller. As a result, it is frequently used to join pipes, stainless steel goods, and tiny precision pieces. Under low current DC conditions or electrode diameters below 2.0mm, cerium tungsten electrodes are the preferred alternative to thoriated tungsten electrodes.

Cerium tungsten electrode is used as a non-radioactive tungsten electrode to replace thoriated tungsten. Usually cerium tungsten electrodes contain 2% cerium oxide. As we all know, cerium tungsten electrodes are suitable for DC welding at low voltages, because they are easy to start arcs at low voltages, and they are 10% lower than thoriated tungsten when working. For pipe welding, cerium tungsten electrodes are the most popular and are also commonly used to weld small parts. Compared with pure tungsten electrodes, cerium tungsten electrodes have a lower combustion rate or evaporation rate. These advantages also increase with increasing cerium oxide content. Cerium has the highest mobility, so at the beginning of the welding, the welding performance is very good. Mobility decreases significantly over time due to grain growth. However, at low voltages, the lifetime is longer than that of thoriated tungsten electrodes. It is because of these properties that it is often beneficial to weld short cycles or a specific amount of weld before changing electrodes. Thorium tungsten electrodes or lanthanum tungsten electrodes are best used for high current, voltage welding. Cerium tungsten electrode (EWCe-2) has been successfully used for DC or AC current, but it is mainly used for DC welding, because the cerium tungsten electrode is easy to split during AC welding.

4. Advantage of Cerium Tungsten Electrode WC20 W-Ce Electrode:

The advantages of cerium tungsten electrodes are no radiation, low melting rate and long service life. Cerium tungsten electrodes are the best products for low current welding and are also used for other low current welding such as tiny and complex parts. The characteristics of tungsten and the environmental benefits of this electrode are present in cerium tungsten electrode. The color of the cerium tungsten electrode tip is gray.

Compared with thoriated tungsten electrodes, cerium tungsten electrodes have the following advantages: thoriated tungsten electrodes have slight radiation, and they can only operate under high current conditions. Cerium tungsten electrodes, on the other hand, may work at low currents and are non-radiative welding materials.

Cerium tungsten electrodes can replace thoriated tungsten electrodes. Another chemical property of cerium tungsten electrodes is that they have small cathode spot, pressure drop, and no combustion, so they are the most widely used in argon arc welding.

5. Applictaion of Cerium Tungsten Electrode WC20 W-Ce Electrode:

It is suitable for direct current or alternating current welding, especially the welding effect of rail pipes and small precision parts is best under low current. Mainly used in the welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, silicon copper, copper, bronze, titanium and other materials, but there is slight radioactive pollution.
