Plastic Structured Packing Classification
Structural packaging is constructed from corrugated and deformed
plastic sheets. The inclination Angle of the corrugation of the
adjacent plate is opposite to the vertical column axis, forming a
focal point at each point where the corrugation intersects. The
result is a very open honeycomb structure with sloping circulation
channels that provide a relatively high surface area but very low
resistance to gas flow. This structure ensures excellent and
uniform wetting under low and high liquid loads. Tower operations
under low liquid loads require specially designed dispensers to
ensure adequate surface wetting. Each subsequent layer of the
structural filler rotates 90° so that the sheet of one layer is
perpendicular to the sheet of the layer above and below. As it
passes through each layer, the gas and liquid mix completely
parallel to the plane of the sheet. By rotating the subsequent
layers, whether from side to side or from front to back, the entire
cross section of the tower is well mixed and spread out.
Perforation and surface structure maximize liquid diffusion.
Plastic Structured Packing Application
It is widely used in the operation of absorption and decomposition
absorption devices, especially in the production process with heavy
liquid load and high operating pressure, such as (HCl) and (H2SO4)
production, degassing CO2 and H2S from natural gas, drying
chlorine, liquid production, waste gas purification and
decomposition absorption deoxygenation devices.
Plastic Structured Packing Specification
Structured packaging has two slants, "X" and "Y". The "Y" type
packing, with an inclination of approximately 45º to the horizontal
axis, is the most widely used packing. They offer higher filtration
efficiency than the "X" type, but at the cost of higher pressure
drop/lower capacity. The "X" type packing has an inclination of 60°
to the horizontal axis and is suitable for high volume and low
pressure drop applications.
