Operation status of sports venues industry in China :

1. The investment in stadium construction is relatively single, and the distribution of stadiums is relatively concentrated

The construction of stadiums and the purchase of facilities in stadiums require quite a lot of funds, especially at present, various events have increasingly high requirements for venues (stadiums), and the functions and uses required by stadiums tend to be diversified, which makes the cost of stadiums also rise.

At present, more than 90% of the funds for the construction of sports venues in China are financed by self-financing or financial allocation, while social donations (including investment by others, etc.) and the corresponding public welfare fund only account for a small part. The investment in stadium construction is relatively simple, and there is no diversified investment pattern, which also makes the government and relevant institutions have absolute control over the development of the sports industry. The government has become the dominant player in the sports industry. As a result, there are only more vertical connections between the front and back links of the sports industry chain and the lack of horizontal communication, which is not conducive to the development of the industry in practice.

2. The utilization rate of sports venues is low and the operation is poor

Many sports venues in China still have the problem of low utilization rate and poor operating efficiency. The basic function of sports venues is to provide residents with a relatively comprehensive place for fitness, sports and competitions, but more than half of the sports venues in China have an average weekly attendance of less than 500 people, and the number of venues with more than 5,000 people per week accounts for less than 10% (only 8.2%), and the overall utilization rate of venues is not high. In addition to the occasional organization of some large-scale events or competition activities, most of the week is almost unused and idle.

From the perspective of venue operation, the operating benefits of most venues are zero, and venues do not have any operating income. The improvement of equipment, the perfection of functions and the maintenance of venue facilities all require considerable costs in the course of venue operation, and the lack of operating income makes these links affected, further hindering the development of domestic venue construction.

3. The social openness of sports venues is not enough

At present, 59% of the millions of stadiums in China are not open to the public, and less than 30% of the stadiums are open to the public. The openness of the stadiums to the general public is relatively low, which is one of the reasons for the low utilization rate of the stadiums mentioned in the previous point.

The reason for the lack of openness is mainly the operation model of Chinese stadiums. The operation of sports venues in China is dominated by the operation of public institutions. This management mode is that the leaders of administrative departments allocate personnel to independently manage the venues.

As the government is the main control body, it takes a long time to realize the application and approval of the use of the stadium. In addition, the government allocates the full amount or the difference, and the enthusiasm of the staff will be reduced, which makes the operation efficiency of the stadium low. In addition, although the sports venues operated by public institutions have certain public welfare, the opening of the venues many times need to be approved, and the admission conditions have certain restrictions, resulting in the conditional opening state of many venues in most cases, curbing the normal opening degree of the venues.
