Certification introduction
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) was established in
accordance with the National Standards Act promulgated in 1945 and
is affiliated with the South African Department of Trade and
Industry. SABS is a neutral third-party certification agency in
South Africa, responsible for system certification and product
certification in South Africa. In addition to its standard-setting
responsibilities, SABS also manages regulatory standards on behalf
of the country and grants the right to use the logo to products
that meet the specifications. SABS Mark is widely used in various
fields and has become a symbol of product quality assurance.

1. South Africa’s certification is divided into two situations: the
first application is LOA and COC, which are mandatory for imports
into South Africa. This certification procedure does not allow the
SASB trademark to be placed on the label of the product. This
application does not allow Factory inspection is required; the

apply for the use of SABS Mark again. The use of this mark requires
a series of factory inspection procedures, which costs a lot, and a
certain amount must be paid every year. Annual fees and factory
inspection fees serve as the right to use the logo.
2. COC is an EMI test, and LOA is a Letter of Authority agent’s
approval. Apply directly to South Africa.
Certification scope
SABS certification is divided into two categories: product
certification and system certification. SABS product certification
mainly includes the following eight categories: chemical products,
biological products, fiber products and clothing, mechanical
products, safety equipment, electrical products, civil engineering
and construction, and automotive products. Among them, the building
materials and products involved include: stone products, concrete
products, roofing materials, cement, lime, cement mixtures, natural
building stones, safety glass, steel structures, wood and wood
products, bricks, tiles, paints, Coatings, sealants, etc.
application process

fill in another application form. Each product within the scope of
certification is required to be reflected on the application form.
In addition, the factory also needs to fill in an application form
regarding the credibility of the person in charge, and the person
in charge must guarantee the first inspection fee and other
certification fees;
3. After receiving the application form, the South African Bureau
of Standards will issue a quotation for review;
4. On the premise that the quotation is approved, the South African
Bureau of Standards will conduct a factory review;
5. If the above review is passed, the South African Bureau of
Standards will prepare an annual supervision contract;
6. Two auditors will conduct random inspections every year, and the
costs of annual supervisory inspections and testing will be stated
in the contract;
7. Two auditors will randomly check samples and bring them back to
the laboratory;
8. For future testing samples, the South African Bureau of
Standards will select goods from South African sellers. If the
batches of goods are less than 4 times a year, insufficient samples
will be sent from the factory, and the cost will be borne by the
factory. bear;
9. If the test result is unqualified, the cost of the sample and
retesting will be borne by the factory;
10. The certificate will be valid for three years unless canceled
for other reasons.
South African certification body description
1. NRCS: It is the issuing agency of LOA certificate.
2. SABS: It is the issuing agency for COC certificate and SABS mark
certification. SABS (South African Bureau of Standards)

certification and testing.
3. LOA certification: letter of authority, targeting security
aspects.
4. COC certification: certificate of Compliance, for EMC aspects.
5. SABS certification: This certification is voluntary. The

Precautions
1. First, the company must designate an agent. The agent will
declare that it is responsible for all data information,
after-sales and other matters. The South African Road Traffic Act
(Act93:1996) requires importers to register with the local
Department of Transport;
2. South Africa is a British country and a member of the right-hand
drive. At the same time, only after successful registration can you
continue testing and submit documents to SABS and other work;
3. All test items should be completed strictly in accordance with
relevant South African standards and technical documents such as
reports that meet the NRCS should be submitted;
4. The entire certification process includes two parts: test report
review and sample consistency inspection; (Note: Sample inspection
can be arranged in China or South Africa according to the needs of
the enterprise)
5. Once all materials and samples pass the review and evaluation of
NRCS, NRCS will issue a certificate. Under normal circumstances,
the entire review process does not exceed 15 working days.
6. Certificate validity date: As long as the applicable standards
and regulations do not change and the samples are not modified in
any way, the certificate will continue to be valid;
7. NRCS will be responsible for production consistency control. If
the sample model is found to be inconsistent, it has the right to
withdraw the certificate.
8. In order to ensure production consistency, NRCS may conduct
factory inspections after a period of time after the certificate
application.
