2.2 Advantages for cooling towers

1) Closed loop
Preventing the impurities into the system to block the cooling tubes, soft water is adopted to avoid overheating caused by scaling to the water pipes.

2) Automatic temperature control
Automatic start/stop spraying system to achieve effective control on the temperature of cycled cooling water, the temperature of the cooling water can be controlled below 40 ℃. With this function, the water & energy cost is reduced to the lowest point with intelligent control to the number of working fans and start & stop of spray pump.

3) No need of water pool and cooling tower
Low cost, small space occupancy, easy installation and move with the welder.

4) Automatic digital display of temperature control
Energy efficient and user friendly.

5) Cooling system structure
Galvanized iron beam.

6) High efficiency heat exchange
Four side air inlet louvers supply sufficient amount of wind blowing through cooling coils taking most of the heat away, which effect is strengthened via spray cooling water running through the cooling coils.

7) Small consumption of soft water
Filling the soft water once is enough for half-year operation without water loss.

Antifreeze is required in the winter season for areas subject to freeze temperature.

  1. Anti-freeze Solutions

In the high-altitude area where temperature drops sharply during the winter season below 0℃, the circulation water of closed circuit cooling tower shall freeze without heat load even sometimes when the circulation water keeps running. Therefore, enough care shall be given to the anti-freeze measures for this concern. Normally two anti-freeze solutions are considered:
(1) Put the circulation water under certain heat load, maintaining the water temperature higher than 7℃(for lower altitude area not higher than 3℃). To keep this heat load, normally the use of immersed electric heater is applicable, meanwhile a minimum flow rate of the circulation water shall be maintained.
(2) The best solution is suggested the use of antifreeze liquid, like glycol. For detailed mixture proportions, please consult your WELL representative.

  • Glycol(C2H6O2)liquid is the main ingredient for most antifreeze mixtures, the negative aspect for this solution is largely its high cost (≈1000USD /Ton). Below is an reference mixture option:

  • Alcohol(CH3OH or C2H5OH) provides a more affordable cost for application,while the following aspects must be considered:

Methanol is poisonous, and enough care must be taken for safe operation

Methanol and Ethanol is volatile, and after long term use, the density may decrease. Below 30% mixture ratio provides lowest volatile level and could be effective in the case of -20℃

For external circulation that relates to spray system, certain measures shall be taken to avoid the spray water from getting frozen in the basin. Electrical immerse heater is recommended for this consideration.

The spray pump also needs to be protected against cold weather, and this may concern the thermal materials like saw dust etc.

Note: All chemical addictives must be compatible with the equipments and piping systems!
