Description


Socket welding flange refers to the flange welded at the pipe end and outside when the pipe end is inserted into the flange ring ladder.  There are two kinds with and without neck. The flange with neck has good rigidity, small welding deformation and good sealing performance.It can be used in the situation with pressure of 1.0 ~ 10.0MPa. B flange for vessel is also socket welding flange, which is used in the occasion with high sealing requirements. During design, socket welding flange can be checked as integral flange.

Socket welding is to extend the pipe into the valve body for welding. After forming, it is similar to the internal thread connection. Generally speaking, there are more carbon steel pipes and stainless steel pipes below 2 "with socket welding. Butt welding is also used for stainless steel pipes below 2", such as flange flanging of sliding sleeve; butt welding is basically used for titanium pipes, dual phase steel, nickel base alloy, etc.

Charateristic


1. Socket welding forms fillet weld, while butt welding forms butt weld.

2.  The butt joint is better than the socket joint according to the strength and stress condition of the weld joint, so the butt joint should be used in the situation of high pressure level and bad service condition.

3. Socket welding is generally used for small pipe diameter less than or equal to Dn40, which is more economical.

4. Butt welding is generally used for Dn40 and above. The connection form of socket welding is mainly used for the welding of small-diameter valves and pipes, pipe fittings and pipes.

5.  Generally, the wall thickness of small diameter pipe is thin, easy to stagger and ablate, and the butt welding is difficult, so it is more suitable for socket welding.

6.  In addition, socket welding has the function of reinforcement, so it is often used under high pressure.

 

Details introduction


1.  The basic shape of the socket flange is the same as that of the flange with neck flat welding.

2.  There is a section of socket on the inner hole of the flange, the pipe is inserted into the socket and welded, and a circle of weld is welded on the back of the flange.

3.  Because there is a gap between the socket flange and tube edge, it is easy to produce corrosion.

4.  If another weld is welded inside, this corrosion can be avoided.

5.  The fatigue strength of the socket flange welded on both sides is 5% higher than that of the flat flange, and the static strength is the same.

6.  When this kind of socket flange is used, its inner diameter shall be the same as that of the pipe. Socket flange is only applicable to pipes with nominal diameter less than 150.

Advantage and Disadvantage


1,  There is no problem of beveling; there is no problem of butt joint and wrong edge; the welding position can be adjusted to flat welding.

2,  One is that the stress condition after welding is not good, and it is easy to have incomplete welding, and there is a gap in the pipe system.

3,  Socket welding is not suitable for the pipe system used for the crack corrosion sensitive medium and the pipe system with high cleaning requirements.

4,  Moreover, the wall thickness of the ultra-high pressure pipeline, even the small diameter pipeline, is also very large, and the butt welding can be used to avoid socket welding as much as possible.
