Francis turbine of Hongya Hydro Generator the water head range is 15m to 300m, capacity from 100kw to 6000kw for each single unit.
1. Spiral Casing
Spiral casing is the inlet medium of water to the turbine. The
water flowing from the reservoir or dam is made to pass through
this pipe with high pressure. The blades of the turbines are
circularly placed, which mean the water striking the turbines
blades should flow in the circular axis for efficient striking. So
the spiral casing is used, but due to circular movement of the
water, it looses its pressure.
To maintain the same pressure the diameter of the casing is gradually reduced, so as to maintain the pressure uniform, thus uniform momentum or velocity striking the runner blades.
2. Stay Vanes
The stay vanes and guide vanes direct the water to the runner vanes. The stay vanes remain stationary in their position and reduce vortices due to radial flow as water enters the runner vanes. Thereby improving the efficiency of the turbine.
3. Guide Vanes
The guide vanes are not stationary, they change their angle as
required to control the angle of impact of the water on the turbine
blades, thus increasing efficiency. They also regulate the flow
rate of water entering the runner blades, thereby controlling the
power output of the turbine based on the load on the turbine.
4. Runner Blades
The performance and efficiency of a turbine depends on the design
of the rotor blades. In a turbine, the runner blades are divided
into two parts. The lower half is made in the shape of a keg so it
uses the pulsing action of the water to spin the turbine.
The upper part of the blade utilizes the reaction force of the
water flowing through the blade. These two forces combine to spin
the wheel.
5. Draft Tube
The pressure at the outlet of the reaction turbine runner is
usually less than atmospheric pressure. The water at the outlet
cannot be discharged directly to the tailrace. Use pipes or pipes
of increasing area to discharge water from the turbine outlet to
the draft ring.
This tube of increasing area is called a draft tube. One end of the
pipe is connected to the outlet of the runner, while the other end
diverts the flow below the level of the tailrace.
