Zero expansion silica bricks are also called fused silica bricks or thermal shock-resistant silica bricks.
Zero expansion silica brick has the characteristics of extremely low thermal expansion coefficient, excellent resistance to rapid cooling and heating, good high-temperature structural strength, and high SiO2 content. Silica bricks have resistance to acid slag erosion. Higher high
temperature strength. The starting temperature of load softening is
1620~1670℃. It will not deform after long-term use at high
temperature. Low thermal shock stability (1~4 times of heat
exchange in water) Natural silica is used as raw material, and a
proper amount of mineralizer is added to promote the conversion of
quartz in the green body into phosphorite. Slowly fired at 1350~14
30℃ under reducing atmosphere. When heated to 1450℃, there will be
about 1.5% to 2.2% of the total volume expansion. This residual
expansion will make the cut joints tightly and ensure that the
masonry has good air tightness and structural strength. At the same
time, it has the advantages of long service life and reduced energy
consumption.
The expansion of zero-expansion silica bricks is almost zero, while
ordinary silica bricks will expand, and the prices of the two types
are different.

Zero expansion silica bricks are widely used in high-temperature thermal equipment such as glass melting furnaces, coke ovens, and hot blast furnaces.
Especially high-temperature thermal equipment can be repaired arbitrarily without stopping the fire.
When the coke oven is partially damaged, it is often necessary to shut down the oven for repair. The thermal stability of silica bricks is poor. When the main mineral phases of silica bricks are tridymite and cristobalite and a small amount of residual quartz are at 200℃~300℃ and 573℃, the volume of the masonry will change due to the crystalline transformation of the SiO2 variant. In order to prevent the deformation and cracking of the masonry, the temperature should not be cooled too fast when the furnace is stopped, otherwise it will affect the service life of the silica brick masonry. The coke oven also requires a slow temperature rise, and the oven time is more than 80 days. The cold repair of coke ovens is difficult, time-consuming, and costly. For this reason, many coke ovens are forced to be out of service after their combustion chambers are damaged.
