Multiple Effect Evaporation

The multiple effect evaporation processes can optimise the energy efficiency of facilities through the recycling of vapour.

 

Functioning

During the first effect, the vapour provided generates vapour at a lower pressure. These vapours are then employed as a vapour heating steam in a second effect.

The number of effects might range from one to eight. The quantity of effects is determined by the investment and operating costs.

The vapours at the last effect's output should be condensed.

 

Example Parallel flow principle

The first stage's evaporator circuit is where the solution is introduced. Here, it combines with the circulating solution and receives steam heating in heater H. In the evaporator V1, the water-based solvent evaporates as the solution is cooled to boiling point. The second stage, which is run at a lower temperature and lower pressure, receives the solution after that. The solution is evaporated in the second stage using the vapour produced in the first stage as a heating medium. Depending on the elevation of the solution's boiling point and the frame circumstances at the time, this procedure may be repeated numerous times.The vapour of the last stage is condensed via cooling water. If salt shall be crystallized in the plant, further evaporation concentrates the solution to such an extent that crystals are formed. If desired, the crystals in the suspension can then be separated from the solution and dried.

The multiple effect evaporator can be made up of falling film, forced or flash-cooling circulation evaporators.

 

Application

This technology is great when the cost of vapour is low.
